The Essay Topic

The Greek philosopher Plato suggested that the ultimate meaning of life is the pursuit of knowledge and virtue so that one can attain the deepest forms of fulfillment and happiness.

Today, general knowledge is a voice prompt away, and happiness is often little more than a fleeting emotion. As tech-driven intelligence continues to advance, what do you think the ideal human society should look like 50 years from now and how might a day in the life of someone living in your hypothetical future play out? As part of addressing these questions, do you think Plato’s view on the meaning of life will still have merit in that era?

Criteria For Awarding Scholarships

Recipient selection will be made on or before July 31, 2026 by a panel comprised of Worcester Credit Union Directors and management. Applications will be evaluated primarily on academic prowess, financial need, community involvement, and essay quality. Recipients will be notified in early August, and an award ceremony will be held at Worcester Credit Union’s Member Appreciation Cookout on August 25, 2026, featuring free food, Mike Hsu from 100FM The Pike, the WooSox mascot & hopefully you!
